In the summer of 2026, Niko Contardi traveled with his team to one of the most beloved destinations: Turks & Caicos. As founder and CEO of EliteLyfe, he's been fortunate to visit these islands more times than he can count, but said that this trip was different.
What Is a FAM Trip — And Why It Changes Everything in Luxury Travel
Anyone who has spent time around the travel industry has heard the term. FAM trip. It gets used often, sometimes casually, but behind those three letters sits one of the most important investments a luxury travel company can make.
A FAM trip, short for familiarization trip, is exactly what it sounds like: an immersive experience designed to make a professional intimately familiar with a destination, property, service, or experience before ever recommending it to a client. Think two to three days of living inside the best a luxury villa, yacht, hotel, or island has to offer, not as a tourist, but as a discerning professional with a standard to uphold.
In luxury travel, knowing is everything.
You cannot sell something with real conviction, the kind of certainty that moves a client from curious to committed, if you have never experienced it yourself. A brochure can list amenities. Only someone who has been there can tell you how the light falls at sunset, how the staff remembers your name, or how it feels to wake up to that one specific shade of blue.
Twelve Years In, and a New Chapter Begins
Niko has owned and operated EliteLyfe for over twelve years. For most of that time, he took the FAM trips himself, staying at remarkable properties across the world and visiting destinations most people only dream about, building a portfolio curated almost entirely on firsthand experience.
But a company grows, and with growth comes both an opportunity and a responsibility to bring a team into that same level of understanding.
EliteLyfe's most recent FAM trip was more than a property tour. It was a deliberate decision to bring the managers of its marketing, sales, and partnerships departments into the world its clients live in.
Not to observe it, but to live it.
To understand, at a felt level, what it means to be Elite and the standard of attention it takes to get there.
The team departed from EliteLyfe's Miami headquarters and set its sights on one of the company's most consistently booked destinations: Turks & Caicos. Every shade of blue imaginable in the water. White sand that looks placed there on purpose. Big smiles, a gentle breeze, and the kind of hospitality that keeps clients coming back year after year.
South Caicos — The Unspoiled One
South Caicos is the part of the archipelago that most visitors never reach, and that is precisely its appeal. While much of Turks & Caicos has embraced development, this quiet island has stayed deliberately raw: untouched beaches, protected waters, and a slower rhythm the rest of the Caribbean has largely traded away. No crowds, no noise, only a stillness the mainland cannot offer. For the traveler who wants to unwind without compromise, South Caicos is a strong recommendation.
Sailrock Resort, South Caicos
The first stop was a property that has lived on the EliteLyfe site for years, yet one Niko had never personally explored: Sailrock Resort.
Getting to South Caicos is part of the experience. A short flight under two hours from Miami lands you in Providenciales (PLS), followed by a quick inter-Caribbean hop to South Caicos. For the more adventurous traveler, that connection is half the fun. For those who prefer confirmed seat assignments and predictable boarding, a direct charter to the island is the wiser choice. The team took the scenic route, with no regrets.
Arriving at Sailrock, your nervous system begins to recalibrate almost immediately. The city noise, the pace, the relentless stimulation, it all quiets. They were met with genuine smiles, an ocean breeze, and a welcome cocktail that happened to match the exact color of the sea. It felt intentional. It probably was. The accommodations spoke for themselves, too: a two-bedroom beachfront villa with a private pool is the kind of statement that does not need much elaboration.
What stood out most at Sailrock was the ownership philosophy, a clear, deliberate commitment to protecting the environment, refusing to over-develop, and raising the bar quietly and consistently. The team arrived with ideas for improvements: refillable metal water bottles, thoughtful in-villa add-ons, an elevated menu. Every one was already in progress under the direction of the resort's newly appointed General Manager. That level of alignment between vision and execution is unique, and it matters.
Two nights on property felt like six, not because time slowed down, but because the environment, the hospitality, and the accommodations gave the team genuine permission to exhale.
Providenciales — Where EliteLyfe Excels
From South Caicos, the team made its way to Provo, the side of Turks & Caicos where EliteLyfe truly shines in the villa rental space. With the ocean as a permanent backdrop and some of the world's finest private residences lining the shore, it is not difficult to understand why clients return again and again.
What separates a great villa from an unforgettable one is rarely the square footage. It is the staff.
The right team turns a rental into a home away from home.
Bristol Breeze — New to the Portfolio, Already a Standout
The first stop in Provo was Bristol Breeze, a newer addition to the EliteLyfe collection and one Niko was personally eager to experience.
The villa is beachfront, beautifully designed, and carries the unmistakable feeling of a home that has been thought about, not just built. The owner has put genuine care into every detail, striking the rare balance between elevated and livable.
But it was the staff who elevated the stay entirely. Attentive without being overbearing. Ahead of every request before you knew you had one. They mixed exceptional cocktails and read preferences almost instinctively. The moment that captured it best: after a few afternoon drinks, a plate of snacks appeared, unrequested, perfectly timed. That is not service. That is instinct.
Leaving Bristol Breeze meant signing the guest book and taking a photo with the villa's team, the kind of small ritual that turns a property visit into a memory.
In the car afterward, the debrief was revealing. The team arrived with notes, genuine, thoughtful observations on what distinguished this villa, where there was room to grow, and how these standards translate into the service delivered. They were beginning to see through the right lens.
Hawksbill Villa — Welcome Home
There is a particular kind of excitement that has no adult equivalent, the kind that lives only in childhood, in the moment your parents tell you that you are going to Disney World, or that your favorite team is about to take the field. "I felt it in that car," Niko recalls.
Because, unbeknownst to the team, the next stop was Hawksbill Villa.
Year after year, Hawksbill has been the most booked luxury villa in Turks & Caicos. "I would argue, without hesitation, that it belongs among the finest in the entire Caribbean," Niko says. As the group turned toward Leeward Estates, one of the most coveted addresses on the island, home to exceptional residences like Hawksbill Villa, Tranquility, Vision Beach, and Sea Breeze Estate, the team began to suspect something.
Niko had kept the property a surprise. When they pulled through the gate and read the name, they knew where they were. What they did not yet know was what waited on the other side of the door.
Niko had last stayed at Hawksbill Villa in 2020, following a landmark client event where EliteLyfe booked the finest villas in Leeward Estates simultaneously. He still had a photo with the staff from that visit, people who, over the years, had become something closer to extended family. Pulling up to the entrance five years later, he was met with a familiar greeting at the door: "Welcome home, Mr. Contardi." As he puts it, "It is not something you can plan for. It simply arrives, and it stays with you."
That sense of belonging is exactly why Hawksbill continues to be a top-booked villa.
From the moment they arrived, everything was ready. Welcome beverages. Cold water. And a cold towel, fragrant, chilled, delivered at the precise moment the Caribbean heat reminds you it is present. For thirty seconds, the world turns arctic. It is one of those small gestures that sounds minor until you have experienced it, after which it becomes non-negotiable.
The site inspection was thorough and enthusiastic: the media room, the pool, the beach deck, the gym, the tennis court, and the private dock on the canal, one of the few beachfront properties on the island with direct canal access. And then, inevitably, came the great question of team travel: who takes the master suite? "My position has always been simple," Niko says. "Every member of this team deserves to experience the level of luxury our clients expect. The master should go to whoever needs to understand it most in that moment."
Over the next two days, the staff continued to show the team exactly what sets them apart. They watched the Champions League final with French and English snacks spread across the table, a detail the villa's team had arranged without being asked. They swam, relaxed, laughed, and let the property do what it does best: make you forget there is anywhere else to be.
On the final evening, Niko asked the staff to join the group for dinner. "They had treated us like royalty for days," he says. "The least we could do was share a table." The chef prepared a steakhouse menu: filet mignon, french fries, mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables, mac and cheese, and a house-made chimichurri Niko has since recreated at home more times than he can count. "Having the team sit with us, at that table, in that setting, was the most memorable moment of the trip," he reflects. "One I will not forget, and one I hope they carry with them too."
Leaving Hawksbill Villa is never easy. It feels like leaving a part of yourself behind, with the quiet understanding that it will be waiting when you return. Before they left, the group took a team photo, five years between this one and the last, yet the smiles had not changed. A few new faces in the frame. And a quiet promise to do it again in another five.
What We Brought Home
A FAM trip is not a vacation. It is an education, one that cannot be replicated in a training manual, a Zoom call, or a property description. It is the kind of knowing that only comes from being there.
This trip delivered that in full. The managers stepped up, treating it not only as a chance to learn but as an opportunity to lead within their departments. They returned with sharpened instincts, fresh ideas, and a felt understanding of what separates the exceptional from the merely good, along with perspectives on how to keep elevating EliteLyfe's service, its recommendations, and its brand, drawn not from theory but from lived experience.
As Niko puts it: "If you have not been to Turks & Caicos, do not take my word for it. Let us take you there." And, as always, a thank you to the clients and team who remain the best part of EliteLyfe.
