Panama: On the way to becoming a leading luxury travel destination

Panama is a tiny but dynamic nation that is carving out a place for itself among the most sought-after luxury travel destinations. Once primarily known for the engineering marvel that is the famous Panama Canal, the country has considerably broadened its appeal beyond this national icon.

From world-class beaches and seductive resorts to a rich cultural fabric interwoven with history and modernity, Panama is a rising star in the world of luxury tourism.

The appeal of Panama's diverse landscape

It's impossible to talk about Panama without mentioning its many natural riches. Among them, lush tropical forests, exotic wildlife and pristine beaches bathed in crystal-clear waters give you a glimpse of what Panama has to offer. Tourists are increasingly attracted by the opportunities for relaxation, leisure and adventure that the country is able to offer to spend a vacation.

It's possible to explore iconic destinations such as the San Blas Islands, with their sandy, turquoise waters and beaches inhabited by indigenous cultures. You can also experience inland adventures in the majestic Volcán Barú National Park, with its many hiking trails through cloud forests, or enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from upscale lodges and luxury homes scattered around the country's best regions.

Accommodations you can enjoy via prestige villa rental opportunities.

Panama's coastal treasures

Beach lovers won't be disappointed by Panama's coastline. The Bocas del Toro archipelago has become a haven for lovers of luxury vacations and high-end leisure activities. With its high-end resorts, private villas and luxury beachfront properties, Bocas is a promise of tranquility and escape for high-end vacations.

Panama's Pacific coast offers equally interesting sites, such as the Pearl Islands, renowned for their beautiful secluded beaches and water sports. The island of Tobago, in particular, is the scene of a large number of high-end construction projects and hotels with exclusive charms aimed at a clientele of discerning travelers in search of exclusivity and prestigious settings.

Vacations in the mountains of Panama

The high plateaus of Chiriquí offer the perfect refuge from the tropical heat of the seaside. Prestigious chalets and luxury cottages nestled in lush green hills provide a haven for those looking to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle.

The region is also renowned for its coffee plantations, providing residents of the beautiful properties for rent in the area with extraordinary tasting opportunities and panoramic views.

Luxury and culture at the heart of the Panamanian experience

Another aspect that makes Panama a prime location for luxury travel is its culture. Rich in influences from Spain, Africa and its indigenous communities, Panamanian culture offers a fascinating contrast to its natural beauty.

Tourists keen to immerse themselves in the indigenous cultural heritage can visit communities such as the Emberá and Guna Yala tribes. Guided tours offer the opportunity to discover and indulge in traditional crafts, dance and music. These interactions are made even more special by a dedicated luxury travel team, which caters to the high standards of comfort and authenticity demanded by privileged travelers.

In cosmopolitan neighborhoods like Casco Viejo, the charm of the historic city rubs shoulders with the modernity of upscale bars and restaurants, luxury hotels and art galleries occupying buildings dating from the colonial era. Here, cobbled streets and colorful facades are enlivened by music, art and culinary traditions, creating an elegant atmosphere that is both authentic and contemporary.

Gastronomic vacations in Panama

Gourmets have countless reasons to rejoice when they visit Panama. The country's culinary scene is flourishing, with many establishments pushing the boundaries of traditional recipes. Panama City's high-end establishments boast award-winning chefs who use local ingredients to create international dishes and recipes.

Beyond the gastronomic effervescence of the capital, small towns and villages offer fresh seafood and dishes prepared on the farm by the locals. Whether it's a chic restaurant on the roof terrace of an upscale hotel or a seafood shack on the coast, gastronomy is an integral part of the luxury experience in Panama.

A cosmopolitan, welcoming destination

With its spectacular beaches and first-class resorts, the country offers an enriching vacation experience for a varied and international clientele. Visitors can look forward to a warm and welcoming environment and a range of facilities to suit every need, ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay.

Many luxury hotels offer tailor-made services, including carefully prepared meals and facilities to meet specific requirements. Many renowned restaurants, such as Aria and Lula By Darna in Panama City, skilfully combine local flavours with international influences, offering a diverse and refined culinary experience.

Top-of-the-range accommodation and services

The increase in the number of luxury travelers flocking to Panama has led to a proliferation of high-end accommodation offerings, both hotels and luxury villas. International chains such as Waldorf Astoria and Ritz-Carlton have set up shop, bringing their trademark luxury and exceptional service to the Panamanian market.

Luxury hotels offer personalized experiences that emphasize privacy and exclusivity. In addition to these prestigious establishments, you can also rent a private island, such as Islas Secas, for a prestige vacation.

More and more prestigious villas are being built for owners who only live there part of the year, so travelers looking for a luxury residence for their stay can find the right property for their vacation by contacting a specialized travel agency.

A certain idea of ecological luxury

One facet of the evolution of Panama's upscale accommodation sector is the rise of eco-friendly luxury resorts. Places like Isla Palenque and Isla Bastimentos are resorts that allow guests to enjoy luxurious surroundings while minimizing their impact on the environment.

These establishments are in line with the authorities' desire for sobriety and environmental commitment, giving priority to renewable energies, locally sourced materials and community values. Guests and renters of luxury villas in Panama can participate in conservation activities to make their stay a relaxing and enriching experience, and give new meaning to their vacation.

Personalized services

When it comes to personalized services, Panama's tourism industry leaves no stone unturned. For example, offering private yacht charters, tailor-made wellness retreats, private parties and private staff.

  • Private guided tours of historic sites and national parks.

  • Personalized culinary experiences.

  • Water sports: snorkeling, scuba diving, water skiing, surfing, etc.

  • Exclusive access to lesser-known attractions and events.

Accessibility and ease of travel

Beyond its natural beauty and luxury tourism offerings, Panama places a premium on accessibility. The country is a convenient gateway for travelers from North and South America, thanks to its strategic location and numerous air links.

Direct flights from the world's major cities land at Tocumen International Airport, just outside Panama City. Thanks to this ease of access and particularly efficient domestic transport services, travellers can enjoy their luxury vacation almost immediately upon arrival.

From domestic flights to scenic train journeys along the Panama Canal, travel between different parts of the country is convenient, accessible and fast. Improved infrastructure and well-maintained roads also help to streamline travel within the country.

Enhanced security measures

Security, long a major source of concern in Panama, has improved significantly in recent years. An expanding police force, prevention campaigns and strict security and policing protocols now guarantee travellers' peace of mind.

Hotels and resorts scrupulously comply with international safety standards, offering residents complete peace of mind in the use of their luxurious facilities. Efforts to maintain public spaces and protect nature reserves also reflect Panama's commitment to providing a safe and pleasant environment for its tourists.

Tuscany is more than just a destination; it’s a celebration of life’s finest pleasures. From its rolling vineyards to its medieval towns steeped in history, this Italian gem offers an itinerary that blends culture, gastronomy, and breathtaking landscapes.

Picture yourself strolling through the cobblestone streets of Siena before indulging in a private vineyard tour in Chianti, where you’ll sample world-class wines paired with local delicacies. For those with a taste for adventure, truffle hunting in the lush forests of San Miniato provides both excitement and culinary rewards. And no trip to Tuscany would be complete without exclusive access to Florence’s art treasures—imagine standing before Botticelli’s masterpieces in a private gallery setting.

Starting with number 10, let’s dive into our rundown of the world's best beaches and discover exactly what makes them so special.

10. Trunk Bay, US Virgin Islands

As one of the most photographed beaches in the Caribbean, Trunk Bay also unsurprisingly makes a regular appearance on the list of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

The half-kilometer-long stretch of sparkling white sand is found on the northern side of St Johns island in the US Virgin Islands. The beach is backed by thick, towering coconut palms that extend over the sand and provide a natural shade and is fronted by aqua blue water that offers extraordinary views and snorkeling.

A highlight at Trunk Bay is the self-guided Underwater Snorkeling Trail, with underwater information about coral formations and sea life. Trunk Bay is the only St. John beach that charges an entrance fee, but it is more than worth it.

9. Playa del Amor (Hidden Beach), Isla Marietas, Mexico

A true one-of-a-kind beach, Playa del Amor, commonly known as the Hidden Beach, seems as if it came straight out of a fantasy novel.

Located on one of the Marieta Islands, 22 nautical miles west of Puerto Vallarta at the mouth of Banderas Bay, this beach is completely hidden from view until you arrive just a few feet away. Suddenly, the surface of the lush green island opens up to reveal a wide, sandy cavern with the blue waters of the Pacific rushing in.

No boats can arrive into the bay, so visitors must swim under the rocks. Once you arrive, the crystal-clear water and ample shade will mean you'll never want to leave.

8. Hyams Beach, New South Wales, Australia

Renowned for its powdery white sand, Hyams Beach in Jervis Bay on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia, is the complete beach vacation destination.

Aquarium-clear snorkeling water, packs of dolphins, seals, and penguins, and walkable secluded bays and beaches sit harmoniously at the fringe of the Jervis Bay National Park. In the park, visitors can go trail walking, birdwatching, and get intentionally lost in the lush forest.

Hyams Beach is tucked in between some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia, such as Murrays Beach and Greenpatch, and is located 3 hours drive from Sydney.

7. Playa Paraiso, Tulum, Mexico

Sitting just south of the Tulum archeological ruins, the wide Playa Paraíso is consistently ranked as the best beach in Mexico and is frequently tops the list of best beaches in the world.

Stretching far and wide along the coast, Playa Paraiso is just a short journey from the extremely popular Playa del Carmen and Cancún, making it popular amongst daytrippers and locals alike. Although it lacks some of the privacy and tranquility of other beaches on this list, it makes up for it with plenty of opportunities for watersports and an array of luxurious bars, restaurants, nightlife, and beach clubs.

You can pack your own towels, chairs, and snacks, or pay for access to the beach club (about $10 to $15 for two beach chairs, or minimum service charge for the restaurant daybeds).

6. Baia Dos Porcos, Brazil

One of the smallest beaches on this list, Baía dos Porcos has just 100m of golden sands divided by huge dark volcanic rocks that rise up on all sides.

This rock-studded beach is home to white sands and unbelievably turquoise waters, including many pools with colorful fish due to the shelter provided by the high walls of black stone. Visitors also find sensational panoramas of the Morro Dois Irmãos and calm, gentle waters for swimming.

Access to Baia Dos Porcos is only possible during low tide as it's necessary to cross a headland from neighboring Praia Cacimba do Padre.

5. Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Cove), Greece

Navagio Beach, also known as Shipwreck Cove, on the Greek Island of Zakynthos (Zante) off the southwest coast of Greece is not just a beach but also the site of a world-famous shipwreck.

The stunning Greek beach is surrounded by brilliant blue ocean water on one side and towering limestone cliffs on its 3 other sides. Right in the middle sits the rusting remains of an old shipwreck: the MV Panayiotis, after washing up on the shores of the bay in October 1980.

Navagio Beach is only accessible by boat. It is worth adding to your itinerary while exploring Zante's magnificent beaches, secluded coves, and verdant valleys.

4. Pink Sands Beach, Bahamas

Found on Harbour Island, one of the smaller islands of the Bahamas, Pink Sands Beach is aptly named for its 5km long stretch of unbelievable soft pink sand.

The pink color makes this beach one of the most unusual and impressive beaches in the world. The light rose color is a result of foraminifera — a marine animal — and its red shell, which crushes and mixes with the white sand. Located along the island's eastern Atlantic Ocean side, the beach is a highly desirable vacation destination, offering numerous activities, great beaches, and luxury resorts.

You can get to Harbour Island via a ferry from Eleuthera, with easy access from Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

3. Anse Lazio, Seychelles

Sitting along Chevalier Bay on Praslin's north coast in Seychelles, Anse Lazio beach is an incredibly secluded tropical beach paradise.

The calm waters and abundance of underwater life at Anse Lazio have earned the beach international acclaim, especially by snorkelers and marine life enthusiasts. Located to the northeast of Madagascar, the beach is bordered by large unearthly granite boulders and is completely engulfed by thick tropical greenery,

Anse Lazio sits about 11km northwest of Baie Ste and is easily accessed by car, bus, or bike from the island's main road.

2. Whitehaven Beach, Whitsundays, Australia

An award-winning beach on Whitsunday Island, the largest of the seventy-four islands in the Whitsundays, Whitehaven Beach stretches over 7km and is home to white silica sand that is among the purest in the world.

Many people claim Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet, a stunning inlet (best seen from Tongue Point) where the tide shifts the sand and water to create an ethereal fusion of colors, are the most beautiful places they've ever seen. The sand at Whitehaven Beach contains 98% silica, meaning it is extremely fine and soft, with some comparing the consistency to that of baby powder.

Whitehaven Beach is best experienced as a day trip via ferry, powerboat, or luxury cruising yacht that departs from Airlie Beach.

1. Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos

Our top pick here at EliteLyfe and the recipient of many designations, awards, and accolades, Grace Bay Beach is clearly the world's best beach for too many reasons to mention.

The 4.8km long beach is located on the northeast coast of the island of Providenciales and is home to an extensive barrier reef, situated about a mile (1.6 km) offshore. The reef protects Grace Bay from the ocean swells of the Atlantic, helping to keep the water calm and safe, and providing endless opportunities for snorkeling, kiteboarding, kayaking, and more.

Grace Bay Beach is where you find nearly all of the large and luxury resorts on Providenciales, as well as world-class dining, entertainment, and nightlife. A huge perk of Grace Bay is that the remote island of Providenciales is less than a 2-hour flight from Miami and a little over 3 hours from New York.

Miami: A Booming City

Miami has long been known as an international travel destination. The cosmopolitan melting pot is overflowing with culture, art, food, and an impressive nightlife.

On top of that, the weather is good year-round, with mild winters and hot summers, making it the perfect retreat for those looking to escape from the brutal East Coast climates.

Miami's heavy Latino influence draws people from all parts of the globe (you can’t go far without passing a bar or restaurant playing Latin music). But what makes the city really special is its one-of-a-kind offering of world-class hospitality, dining, and endless MIami VIP events.

Why Miami is an Up & Coming City

The second-largest metropolis on the East Coast, Miami is a highly desirable place to live, work, retire, or just spend a few days vacation. Home to the Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins, as well as David Beckham’s Club Internacional de Futbol Miami and the 2022 Formula One Grand Prix, you’ll find no shortage of global sporting events.

If you like to party, you'll never tire of Miami’s world-class restaurants, hotels, shops, cruises, and beaches. The city also has an impressive visual and performing arts scene. Wynwood and the Design District are two neighborhoods that have been completely transformed to showcase some of the best art and design talent Miami has to offer.

Top Events Happening in Miami

There are dozens of international Miami VIP events happening all year round. The following events are some of the biggest on the global stage and bring with them some incredibly exclusive experiences that are not to be missed.

Ultra Music Festival

If you’re looking for an unforgettable weekend in Miami, look no further than one of the best music festivals in the world: Ultra Music Festival.

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the festival is back and ready to make up for lost time. The three-day festival, which will take place from the 25th to the 27th of March, will host over 150,000 people at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami.

There are very few festivals in the world that manage to get such a quality lineup, with Afrojack, Alison Wonderland, David Guetta, DJ Snake, Nicky Romero, Tiesto, and Zed’s Dead, plus 20 more headliners and almost 150 supporting acts. If that seems too much, Ultra also has its own app to help you remember the acts you want to see and to notify you of any announcements or schedule changes.

VIP admission allows for expedited entry, dedicated restrooms and bars, a VIP Village, and an exclusive deck with the best seats in the house for the Ultra Main Stage.

The Miami Open

From the 21st of March to the 3rd of April, 2022, the renowned Hard Rock Stadium will host one of the world’s greatest two-week tennis tournaments. With a return to full capacity, the skill and talent that draws in crowds from all over the world will be on full display, with names including Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Nick Kyrgios, and Naomi Osaka.

Outside of the matches themselves, there'll be an array of entertainment options, with the Open bringing in an exclusively curated mix of music, food, and fashion. Local artists will also be painting murals throughout the space.

Miami VIP Event and Luxury Suite packages are available, offering VIP parking, express lanes, an exclusive entrance, and all-inclusive upscale food and beverage options.

LIV Miami

Since opening in 2008, LIV has been one of the hottest and most star-studded clubs in the whole of Miami. LIV once held Skrillex and Justin Bieber in the same weekend and there’s a rumor that Mark Cuban once spent 100K there on a bottle of champagne.

Last summer, the club closed for a $10 million renovation and has managed to come back with more impressive events than ever. In March, you can look forward to LIV hosting David Guetta, Tiesto, and Pusha T, among others. Owner David Grutman has called Sunday nights at LIV “the biggest hip-hop party in the world.” That might seem like a big claim, but with chart-topping artists and 400 LED panels that orchestrate choreographed light shows and take up the ceiling of the entire club, we can see where he’s coming from.

Miami VIP event bottle service packages at LIV Miami range from $1,500 to $6,000.

2022 Miami Grand Prix

On the 8th of May Miami will, for the first time, be home to the Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Miami International Autodrome.

This action-packed race circles the Hard Rock Stadium, home to Miami Dolphins, and will see drivers reach average speeds of 222km/h. While the first Grand Prix in Miami took place in 1926, Formula 1 has never visited the city. With a significant investment in the infrastructure of the city and the race, the Miami Grand Prix has begun its ten-year F1 contract and expects to become a regular home of the world-renowned event.

VIP experiences are available which include F1 Insider Access, an exclusive pit lane walk, guided paddock access, and trackside hospitality.

Palm Court, Miami Design District

Palm Court is one of the United States’ most luxurious shopping malls. The space is well equipped to host private dinners, art shows, music performances, and fashion events.
Architecturally stunning, Palm Court is home to an iconic geodesic dome designed by the legendary architect Buckminster Fuller and boasts over 50 palm trees of various species. Visitors also find an extensive collection of high-end timepieces and jewelry brands, which means Palm Courts also often attracts celebrities and famous names from all over the country. You’ll also find public art installations, designer boutiques, and an array of high-end dining options.
